“The School at the End of the World” is the name of the new educational artistic project that was born between the Faculty of Arts and Design (FAD) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the National Museum of Fine Arts and the visual artist and Mexican professor, José Miguel González Casanova.

It is a continuous process that has three stages that will take place both in Cuba and the Central American country. The first of the stages corresponds to the inauguration this Friday in the Temporary Room on the fourth level of the Universal Art Building, of the exhibition Códice del fin del mundo, by Casanova himself, which will be open to the public until next June 30, reported Prensa Latina.

The exhibition consists of a series of 10 large-format drawings that experiments with peculiar materials such as amate paper, the original support of the codices, handmade from the tree of the same name by the native peoples, the use of oil, fire, gold and his own blood, and seeks to raise awareness about the impact of capitalism on nature and human society in general through issues such as exploitation and consumerism.

In the second stage, educational workshops on the topic will be held in the Hall itself with the participation of communities from the Cuban capital and the museum’s regular public. This will be during the month of July of this year.

As for the third stage, it will be a meeting in the month of August that will take place in Taxco and Mexico City, with the same objective as in Cuba, but seeking the participation on this occasion of the Mexican public. In this event, museum exhibitions will be made that will be included in the month of September to the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts and will remain there until October 6.
