Minister Montes for reconstruction in Viña del Mar: “We already have four permanent homes under construction and in a few days the first one will be finished”

  • The Secretary of State announced that next week nearly 400 subsidies will be delivered to families affected by the fires and stressed that the MINVU is working on a road improvement project, that is, the construction of concrete tracks and acquisition and installation of luminaires and poles.

The Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, Carlos Montes, arrived at the Manuel Bustos camp in Viña del Mar to visit the works of the first four definitive homes that are being installed on the site using the industrialized construction methodology and that will directly benefit of families affected by the fires of the first days of February of this year.

“Reconstruction moves at the pace it has, this cannot be invented, it has a cycle, three months ago the catastrophes occurred and from that comes a whole process of responding to the emergency, we have tried to respond with the greatest speed, understanding that capabilities must be built on the march. And then, starting in March, everything related to the construction of the permanent home begins to be organized and here we are, in the first days of May, with four permanent homes that are under construction,” said the head of the MINVU.

Minister Montes added that “doing it quickly is key, because families need a roof over their heads, they need a place to live and they need the peace of mind to rebuild their own lives. I want to assure everyone that the Ministry of Housing and the entire State are doing everything possible to respond, but times cannot be invented here. Normally, building a house takes at least 15 months from then on. And here we are, in a few days the first one will be finished so that the family can arrive.”

The Secretary of State highlighted the industrialized technology that allows housing to be delivered more quickly, since “this technology, which we hope will be even cheaper, is of quality and does not pollute, it is faster. All of this allows us to have housing at other times and in other conditions.”

It was the Seremi of Housing of the Valparaíso Region, Belén Paredes, who explained the way in which families can access this type of housing solution. “The first thing we have done is organize ourselves in different areas of intervention, therefore, the neighbors must approach their neighborhood leaders, who have coordination with the technical and social teams, so that a visit to the lands of the residents can be coordinated. neighbors and families who opt for this option. First, the family condition is analyzed and then the technical condition of the land, to evaluate the feasibility, for example, that a crane can enter the territory and that certain dimensions of the land are met, so that they allow the development of housing with the methodology of industrialization”.

Asked about the delivery of self-construction subsidies, the director of SERVIU Valparaíso, Rodrigo Uribe, clarified that there is only one condition for families to access it: “which is when the person has more than one home, because there we are not solving the housing issue, but we are resolving the heritage issue and, from that perspective, the people who can qualify for subsidies are the families that have only one home and that was burned down.”

Regarding the same, Minister Montes assured that “next week we hope to deliver 400 subsidies to speed up the pace of progress” and also announced the beginning of a road improvement project, through the construction of concrete footprints and acquisition and installation of autonomous solar lights and poles for Maule and Millenium streets, which will allow connection from Villa Independencia to the main connectivity axis of the camp, which is Av. Luna.
