How to avoid the arrival of the mosquito that transmits Dengue to Atacama

The discovery of the Dengue-transmitting mosquito in the national territory has generated concern among the authorities, which is why an awareness program has been initiated, which seeks to provide advice to citizens and reduce the spread of this disease.

This discovery was made in the Aconcagua area, in a bus terminal, where adult mosquitoes and also eggs could be found, which is why intense control has been carried out in the area and its surroundings.

The Seremi de Salud of Atacama, Jéssica Rojas, clarified that the presence of the mosquito Aedes aegypt has not been detected in the region, despite this, it is essential to prevent the arrival and spread of the vector, responsible for the transmission of Dengue.

In addition to that, accumulations of water in containers that do not have lids should be avoided, since these spaces generate ideal conditions for the insect to reproduce.

Likewise, it is recommended to change the water in vases for sand or moist soil; Cover, empty and periodically clean surfaces and containers where water accumulates.

At the national level, 315 cases of Dengue have been detected and, so far, four confirmed cases have been recorded in Atacama, all of them imported, that is, they were infected while traveling outside the region.

For this reason, those who travel to countries that have the presence of this mosquito, such as Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina, should use clothing that protects them from bites, repellents that contain DEET or use alternatives, such as IR 35 35 or Icaridin.

Dengue symptoms usually appear between 4 to 10 days after the bite and can last between 2 to 7 days, presenting fever, headache, pain behind the eyeballs, muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, swollen lymph nodes and /or rash, among others.

If you present any of these symptoms, you should go to a healthcare facility.
