Another deadly day in Cauca! Two soldiers lost their lives in clashes with FARC dissidents

Fights were once again reported between the National Army and members of the FARC dissidents, in Cauca.

The information that emerged on the night of this Friday, May 3, is that the clashes take place in the La Playa village, a rural area of the municipality of Toribío, in the north of the department.

According to information from the authorities, two soldiers lost their lives when they were fighting against the rebels. Others were injured.

In this part of Cauca, it is the dissidents of the Dagoberto Ramos front of the FARC who have cornered the soldiers, who defend themselves to the death while trying to gain territory.

Meanwhile, in Algeria, the clashes are with the members of the Carlos Patiño faction, whose members use artisanal explosives, tatucos, when attacking the military.

From there, disturbing audio of what is happening in the conflict zone circulates on social networks. In it you can hear how a colonel tells the soldiers to make escape maneuvers: “jump into the hole.”

However, a soldier responds that they are surrounded and cannot make that maneuver because they are in danger.

The clashes between dissidents and the National Army do not stop in this area of the country. On May 1, heavy fighting was also reported, but on that occasion in the Huellas indigenous reservation, located in Caloto, Cauca, where about 36 families have been displaced, while around 86 homes remain confined.

The Association of Indigenous Councils of Northern Cauca, Acín, reported that the fighting began at the beginning of the week, when a violent advance occurred between the public force and the guerrilla groups, in the La Esmeralda village.

Additionally, the Association of Indigenous Councils of Tacueyó, Toribio and San Francisco, belonging to the Nasa Project Life Plan and the general population of that area issued a statement declaring a situation of humanitarian and territorial emergency. This measure is taken due to the imminent risk of physical and cultural extermination they face.

In addition, they denounced that 374 leaders in the region have been murdered in recent years, while the communities are in the midst of explosions and machine gunfire.
