Government expels 65 Venezuelan citizens for crimes in Chile — Fast Check

The Chilean government carried out the expulsion of 65 Venezuelan citizens on a flight to Caracas, in a coordinated action between the National Migration Service (Sermig) and the Investigative Police. These expulsions were divided into 55 judicial cases and 10 administrative cases, motivated by crimes ranging from kidnapping and threats to illicit drug trafficking and possession of firearms.

In a coordinated action between the National Migration Service (Sermig) and the Investigative Police, the Chilean government completed the expulsion of 65 people of Venezuelan nationality this Friday. These expulsions were carried out on a flight to Caracas.

According to Sermig, based on what was reported by La Tercera, these expulsions are divided into 55 judicial cases and 10 administrative cases. Among the crimes that motivated these expulsions were kidnapping, threats, illicit association, robbery with intimidation, robbery with violence, illicit drug trafficking, possession of firearms, among others.

Along the same lines, and according to the Sermig report, of the 55 judicial expulsions, 22 correspond to robbery with intimidation, 12 to robbery with violence, 7 to drug trafficking, 3 to possession of firearms and 2 for kidnapping. . Regarding administrative expulsions, these were mainly due to entry through unauthorized passage.

Expulsions in Chile

During the current year, a total of 411 individuals of different nationalities were expelled from Chile. Of these, 208 were expelled for administrative reasons, while 203 were expelled for judicial reasons.

In contrast, last year there were 946 expulsions (337 for administrative reasons and 609 for judicial reasons). In 2022, expulsions amounted to 1,070 people (31 for administrative reasons and 1,039 for judicial reasons), while in 2021 there were 914 expulsions (246 administrative and 668 judicial).

Regarding the nationality of those expelled in 2024, the Migration Service reported that 155 were Colombians, 146 Venezuelans, 36 Bolivians and 31 Dominicans.
