This Friday a new edition of the Vaccine Night at the Children’s Hospital, located on Juan Antonio Lavalleja 3050, the health event that seeks to expand coverage and raise awareness about the importance of having an up-to-date license.

The cold did not prevent citizens from being present. The activity began at 7 p.m. and was well attended. The line, which started at the hospital door, was one block long and the waiting time was approximately 30 minutes. Adults, the elderly, young people and children attended to complete their vaccination schedule.

“For us it exceeded our own expectations, the influx of people we are having really fills us with pleasure because people understand health promotion. In the first opportunity that we organized the vaccines tonight, 4,500 doses were administered and today we hope to exceed that number,” explained Daniel Martín, director of the Children’s Hospital.

It should be noted that this initiative began in 2015, initially organized at the Niño Jesús Pediatric Hospital, located on the frequented Castro Barros Avenue. It always had a good response from citizens and was highlighted years ago by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

The director of the hospital warned that there are delays in updating the national vaccination card for children and that this situation often occurs because parents are very demanding with their jobs and the sanatoriums do not have longer vaccination schedules.

“With Covid19 we had reductions in vaccination due to an issue that had to do with isolations and we began to suffer certain outbreaks of diseases that had practically been eradicated, including rubella or measles, putting the epidemiological system on alert. People understand that vaccines prevent diseases, they are immunopreventable,” Martín remarked.

On this occasion, the vaccination will be until 11 p.m., the sanatorium authorities also stated that they will finish giving doses until there are no waiting lines. Also, they stated that there are vaccines available to carry out the initiative and that if there is more demand they have reserves.

“I came with my four children to see what vaccine they need and also to get the flu shot. We came last year, it seems like a very good and comfortable initiative since it was often difficult for me to come because of my work,” Adriana commented while she waited in line to be served.

The sanatorium rooms were filled with music and theater. Two clowns entertained the children while they waited to be served. They sang songs, read poems and acted. Likewise, outside the hospital there were also games put together by the Secretary of Social Policy and Human Development of Córdoba for the promotion of disability.

Many older adults were present. “It is the first time we come, we found out about the event through the media. We are retired and we have Pami, so we take advantage of the free vaccinations. We are going to get the Covid and flu vaccines since the cold is coming,” explained Luis, 71, in the waiting room, who went with his wife.

Patients entered in order of arrival and for those who had reduced mobility there were also Autovac stations available for inside the cars. In addition, some of the attendees were pregnant women who came to be vaccinated against the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), which causes the majority of acute lower respiratory infections. The dose is mandatory for pregnant people.

The initiative was also carried out at the Príncipe de Asturias Municipal Hospital, on 1200 Defensa Street, in the Villa El Libertador neighborhood, and at the Faculty of Health Sciences, of the Catholic University of Córdoba (UCC), on the beach located on Libertad Street 1255, in the General Paz neighborhood.
