During his stay in La Guajira, President Gustavo Petro pointed out the existence of barriers established by a political force that make it difficult to solve the problem of the shortage of drinking water in the area. Furthermore, in a segment of his speech, the president alluded to those involved in the department’s tank truck corruption scandal, classifying them as “cachacos.” He claimed his intention was to appropriate the money rather than put it into the community to address water-related hardships.
Faced with this, former presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt rejected the words of the President of the Republic, saying that he wanted to divide Colombians between “costeños and cachacos.”
In his message he also stated that the head of state wanted to divide the country between rich and poor, workers and businessmen. He additionally asked that the Cachacos not be blamed for the controversy over the tank trucks in the department of the Caribbean coast of the national territory.
“Petro wants to divide us between rich and poor, workers and businessmen, students and police, and now between costeños and cachacos!! Don’t blame the cachacos. He planned the theft of the tank cars to bribe Congress. Triple theft: Theft of Colombians’ taxes. Theft of resources to face the water emergency in La Guajira. “Stealing of the congressional majorities to twist them and pass their reforms,” commented the Colombian politician.

And in relation to the aforementioned scandal in his intervention in the department of La Guajira he commented that: “Once the decrees have fallen, we must impose the decisions made with the community in any case and not back down. Now, when we tried it, the second problem arose. The cachacos that we sent here, apparently, I am not a judge, sought to steal the money.”
And he added that these people sought to “build a capillary system that would take public money to we don’t know yet what destinations, and, again, stopping the possibilities of this region for each of its inhabitants to have drinking water.”
He also stated that the considerable resistance found to solve the water crisis in La Guajira reveals the presence of an underlying power, which translates into votes and reflects the existence of dominant elites in the spectrum of power.
Ingrid Betancourt, similarly, responded to the president’s publication related to the aforementioned scandal. In this, she said that her Government did not help elect Iván Name as president of the Senate nor did it give him money to approve the reforms that her administration has proposed during her stay in the Casa de Nariño.
“Not even the government helped elect Senator Name as president of Congress, the opposition did; nor has Senator Name supported our bills; Not even in the era of money transfers that Sneyder talks about were tank cars; But what was happening were the elections,” said the head of state.
To this last point, the former congresswoman responded to the Colombian president by contradicting him and commenting that he “ordered Congress to be bought,” so that his government’s reforms could be passed, and even said that the head of state was “applying Marx” in the country.
“We woke up with this pearl. No, Petro, you ordered Congress to be bought so that they could pass on your reforms. That later they buy votes, that is also their fault. The issue is that you are applying Marx to us: Citizens’ taxes pay to end our democracy. The law is for everyone and citizens are no longer deceived,” said the former congresswoman in her X account with Infobae.
