SANTIAGO DE CUBA-. The Regional Meeting, for the Americas, of the World Peace Council (WPC) meets today in the Hero City, with the participation of representatives of eleven organizations from various continents and Europe, and the presence of Fernando González Llort, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (Icap).

The activities began with the tribute to José Martí, Fidel Castro and other heroes whose remains are treasured in the Santa Ifigenia Heritage Cemetery and the plenary session took place in the Stained Glass Hall, in the Plaza de la Revolución Mayor General Antonio Maceo, with the assistance of political and government authorities of the province of Santiago de Cuba.

The validity of the Martian and supportive thoughts of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, a great defender of just causes throughout the world, has been highlighted at the event, especially the need to safeguard the unity and integration of the peoples of the Americas and the rejection of interference in the internal affairs of countries by powers, specifically in Palestine.

The head of Icap, when presenting the report, stated “the complex scenario that the region is experiencing and the priority that solidarity with peoples under occupation, colonial rule or with foreign military presence is”; At the same time, he highlighted the important steps taken by Cuba, in that sense, and in the strengthening of its links and coordinated work with pacifist organizations on the five continents.

It turned out that there will be numerous activities to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the CMP – created in 1949 to unite wills in pursuit of disarmament and the fight for peaceful coexistence -, which will also be sponsored by these organizations from Mexico, Canada, Argentina, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Barbados and Cuba, and the European nations of Cyprus, Norway and Sweden.
