Havana, May 6 (RHC) The first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, will begin a working visit to the Russian Federation to address the priorities of the bilateral agenda, after the re-election of President Vladimir Putin.

The Cuban dignitary reported this in his X account, and added that among the activities planned for the visit, he will participate in the Supreme Council of the Eurasian Economic Union.

The visit is framed in the 64th anniversary of the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and the 79th anniversary of the Soviet victory in the Great Patriotic War.

In November 2022, the Cuban head of state visited the Russian Federation, where he held official talks with his counterpart Vladimir Putin.

At that time, Díaz-Canel expressed the intention to continue strengthening, narrowing and expanding bilateral ties and relations between the two countries.

Likewise, he highlighted Russia’s role in the search for a change in the world towards multipolarity and reiterated Cuba’s support in that endeavor.

Cuba and Russia maintain bilateral cooperation in areas such as energy, metallurgy and transportation, among others.

In addition, the Slavic country was one of the main sources of tourism to the largest island of the Antilles in 2023, with the resumption of direct flights and the use of Russian Mir bank cards in Cuba. (Source: alejandro.cu)
