The governor of San Juan, Marcelo Orrego, handed over this Monday the first neighborhood of his administration: Virgen de Fátima I, located in Jáchal. The housing complex of 73 houses built through the Provincial Housing Institute (IPV) and completed with entirely provincial funds, marked a milestone in a complicated context in which the national government stopped contributing to this public policy. Aware of this, the provincial leader called on the mayors to work together and highlighted the effort the province is making to support the reactivation of public works. “Today is an important day for me, an exciting day. Because we can bring this peace of mind to these families, in this case 73, their dream of their own home,” he said, visibly moved.

In his speech, Orrego maintained the importance of public works, especially for those who live in the interior of San Juan, given that it not only means a building, but also issues such as the ease of an ambulance getting from one place to another. In this context, he said that Argentina is going through an exceptionally difficult time, but that with effort and good administration, the objective of continuing with construction will be achieved.

“I am convinced that we are going to get out of this moment, the worst in history. I am convinced because we are managing and being very strict. There are no unproductive expenses. I have had a very difficult time, but I am convinced that with a good team we will achieve it. “We San Juan residents have always gotten up when we have fallen,” he said.

In a message to the mayor of Jáchal and the rest of the community leaders, the governor said that the provincial State “lays out the structure of the houses,” but that through joint work the neighborhood can be completed with squares, sports centers, etc. . “It is a neighborhood where we had to put up the houses, but surely the municipality will have to build the squares, or in the future a sports center. I say this because it was my turn to govern my city and when it was my turn at that moment, when it was my turn now, what I inexorably think about is doing,” he added.

Espejo, for his part, took the message and thanked Orrego for having chosen Jáchal as the symbol of the reactivation of public works.

“San Juan is the first province to reactivate public works and Jáchal is the first department to receive a neighborhood in this management. Thank you very much, Marcelo,” said the mayor.

This neighborhood in Jáchal is the first to be delivered during Orrego’s administration, but it is expected that next month there will be a second. According to the director of the IPV, Elina Peralta, the next housing complex to be awarded will be La Jarilla, which is located in Rawson and has 49 houses.

The excitement of owning your own home

Most of the families waiting for their home in the Virgen de Fátima I neighborhood waited for their home for 20 or 30 years. Some waited so long that they could not enjoy their home with their children. Despite this, his eyes reflected happiness.

This is the case of Miguel Angel Brizuela and Carmen Tejada, who waited for their home for 30 years. They will not live with their children, because they have already “flew away from home”, but they will enjoy their own home with them. “It is a dream come true,” they indicated.

Marlene Rodríguez also waited 30 years for her home. Now, she will enjoy it with her children. “I am happy, very happy. Even though we were waiting for the house for 30 years. Another successful bidder is María Cristina Arancibia, who assured that now that she has her own house she is much calmer.

Without a doubt, many emotions were experienced during the delivery of the first neighborhood during Orrego’s administration. Like Patricia’s family, who has three daughters and a granddaughter. One of them has motor and hearing disabilities. This family was waiting for years for a house with decent conditions suitable for the special needs of this young woman. Life before was very complicated, since the wheelchair did not fit in the bathroom, and they had to find their way to live together. Now, the IPV built a home where his wheelchair can live together.

All these individual stories portray a collective dream: that of one’s own home. A dream that without a present State and a public policy aimed at satisfying the needs of the people.

Fact

  • The Minister of Infrastructure, Water and Energy, Fernando Perea, and the Minister of Production, Labor and Innovation, Gustavo Fernández, arrived at the inauguration of the neighborhood. In addition, the national representative Nancy Picón and some provincial legislators, such as Carlos Jaime and Miguel Ángel Vega, were present.
