Ortodoncia Muro and Re9 take advantage in the Empresas de La Rioja paddle tennis tournament

The commitment of the Haro City Council to the promotion of sport took the first day of the Empresas de La Rioja padel tournament to the courts of El Mazo last weekend, and did so with some more than interesting matches that – among other things – They highlighted the generational change that Rioja padel is experiencing.

The ‘classics’ of what was the Interempresas have not reached the finals of the new Empresas de La Rioja on this occasion.

In the men’s category, Ortodoncia Muro – defended by Javier López and Iker Domínguez – won the final against the couple from Alos Pádel (Jorge and Pablo Martínez). The score –3/6, 7/6, 6/4– reflects the equality of a match played at a high level that moved in spurts and had an uncertain outcome until the last moment. In any case, Ortodoncia Muro was awarded the first partial victory at the same time that she presented her candidacy for the final victory. To achieve this, she had previously pushed Pregaluminio out of her way in the semifinals, while Alos had gotten rid of Selen Norte.

Alos Pádel placed its teams in the two men’s finals and the first women’s final, but could not win any of the three

In the second category, the team that took the first victory was Cartonajes Santorromán. In the final – the last match of Sunday morning – the Calagurritano team defeated Alos Pádel by 6/2, 4/6, 6/3, in a match with many alternatives on the scoreboard.

Unusual developments

The first women’s final had a strange development. Re9 and Alos Pádel faced each other. It was the players from the Logroño club (Macarena García and Ana Zurbano) who took a clear advantage by winning the first set with a ‘relatively’ comfortable 6/2. However, their rivals – Blanca Martín and Valeria Pérez – went from less to more and barely gave their rivals any options, who after having won the first set lost the second by a resounding 6/1. The third and final set also fell to the girls of Re9 by, a tighter score, 6/4.

The only final of the entire tournament that was resolved in two sets was that of the second women’s category. In that draw, Logroño Deporte beat Victoria by 6/3 and 6/1.
