The president of the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA), Gerardo Landaluce, highlighted this Tuesday the importance of the future Army Logistics Base (BLET) that will be installed in Córdoba as a key project that promotes the demand and development of the Central Railway Branch.

In statements to journalists, before opening in Algeciras (Cádiz) the “Logistics Connectivity” conference around the BLET organized by Córdoba businessmen, Landaluce recalled that Córdoba is a province located in a “fundamental strategic environment” for the port. of Algeciras, which manages “90 percent” of its exports and imports. He added that ports are in an “important transformation” process to adapt “to the new needs of society”, while carrying out their work to achieve “efficient connectivity to the industrial fabric”.

To this end, he has pointed out that the “modification of the trans-European transport networks” is betting on a “new dimension” beyond energy, since “the military dimension is gaining special relevance”, hence the BLET could be a project fundamental for “the claim of a central branch within the two corridors, both the Mediterranean and the Atlantic.”

In this way, Landaluce has called for a “state policy” that promotes connectivity in the south of Spain, especially at a time “with a large part of Europe blocked by the closure of the Suez Canal and the Red Sea” and that puts “doubly in strategic position to the Strait of Gibraltar.” For his part, the mayor of Córdoba, José María Bellido, has stressed that the city and the port of Algeciras are united “in the present and in the future” since in the “great railway highway that has to link Algeciras with Zaragoza and then connect to France, Córdoba wants to be a strategic partner.”

And to this end, Bellido has highlighted that the BLET, which will concentrate in Córdoba the 12 logistics bases that are currently spread throughout Spain, will be a “large industry center, also intelligent,” that would also benefit from this future central branch. “. The president of the Confederation of Businessmen of Córdoba (CECO), Antonio Díaz, has encouraged the businessmen of Cádiz to know “what is happening in Córdoba” and to see “a business opportunity in logistics, in matters of technology and in terms of infrastructure and industry 4.0”.
