In the last week, two people died in road accidents in the urban area of the Casanareña capital. High speed, recklessness and driving under the influence of alcohol continue to be the most common causes of road accidents.
According to the mobility balance presented by the deputy commander of traffic agents Diego García Peralta, in the week of April 29 to May 5, a total of 21 road incidents were recorded and attended to; 8 cases with material damage, 11 with injured people (14 injured) and 2 deaths.
Regarding the two fatal events, the deputy commander indicated that in the case of the night of Saturday, May 4, the woman who was driving the motorcycle and died after colliding head-on with a vehicle was driving in the wrong direction at high speed. They are waiting for the forensic examination to determine if she was driving under the influence of intoxicants.
Regarding the road accident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, May 5, on the way up to Cerro de la Virgen, where the young Luis José López Delpino, 20 years old, of Venezuelan nationality, who was traveling as a griller, died, the deputy commander that they were descending from the hill at high speed and had invaded the opposite lane, colliding head-on with a car.
Regarding the young driver of the motorcycle, who, upon learning that his partner had died, fled the scene, he appeared at the traffic agents’ office around 10:30 p.m. on the same Sunday. This 23-year-old person had already been issued a summons on December 13, 2023 for driving while intoxicated (grade 2).
Regarding why this young man did not have a suspended driving license, García Peralta indicated that he may have challenged the summons so it would still be pending. As to whether he was driving while intoxicated, it would not be possible to determine, since he showed up several hours after the unfortunate event.
In terms of control and prevention, a total of 98 summonses were applied this week, broken down as follows: 49 for parking in prohibited areas, 24 for failure to use a helmet, 7 for lack of a technical-mechanical inspection, 6 for lack of a safety policy. SOAT insurance and 3 for driving under the influence of alcohol.
So far this year, 20 people have died in road accidents compared to 32 registered in the same period of 2023. There is also a decrease in the number of injured people, with a total of 53 reports in the current year compared to the 123 registered during the same period in the previous year.
