The National Meteorology and Hydrology Service (Senamhi) issued an orange alert for possible floods and river overflows in three departments of the country. From May 8 to 15, intense rains could affect the riverside areas of Cochabamba, Santa Cruz, the north of La Paz and the Yungas of La Paz.

It is expected that the rivers: Ichilo, Yapacaní, Surutú and Piraíin the department of Santa Cruz, experience sudden increases in their flow. This situation could generate overflows in towns such as San Juan Campo Victoria, San Germán, Avaroa Molle, Villa Rosario, San Juan de Yapacaní, Santa Rosa del Sara, Cuatro Ojos and surrounding communities.

A similar scenario is expected in Cochabamba, where the rivers: Ichilo, Ivirgarzama, Magareño, Chimoré and Chapare could overflow. The towns of Puerto Villarroel, Ivirgarzama, Chimoré, Villa Tunari and others near the rivers are at risk.

In the north and the Yungas of La Paz, the alert extends until May 15. The Cotacajes, Boopi, Tamampaya rivers and several secondary tributaries could experience flooding, threatening populations such as Chulumani, Luribay, Coroico, Caranavi and surrounding communities.

The authorities recommend that the population stay away from the river banks and be attentive to the Senamhi forecasts.
