The peasants of the province of Santiago de Cuba ratified their commitment to food production – a matter of national security – and the defense of the conquests of the Revolution, in the provincial event in greeting to May 17, the date on which The first Agrarian Reform Law was signed and the Association of Small Farmers (Anap) was founded, which was based in the municipality of San Luis.
With the presence of Party leaders, Manuel Falcón Hernández, Governor, and other political, social and mass organizations, a representation of peasant structures from throughout the province took part in a space to deliver certificates to new beneficiaries, the card that accredits eight farmers as members of the Party and the Young Communist League, respectively; also of the Condition of Provincial Vanguard to the municipalities of Santiago de Cuba and Palma Soriano and the ratification, for the third consecutive year, of National Vanguard of the Anap to San Luis, given its sustained and comprehensive results in the work of the organization.
George Olivares Massó, president of the Anap Provincial Committee, in the central words, demanded “the lifting of the unjust blockade imposed by the United States government on our country, the cessation of wars in Europe and the Middle East and the determination of the Santiago cooperative-peasant sector with the elevation of planting and production levels, to mitigate the effects of inflation.
The First Agrarian Reform Law was a measure that radicalized the Cuban revolutionary process, by outlawing latifundia and handing over the land to those who worked it, in line with the Moncada Program. The untamed province, scene of the struggles of the peasant class, has consolidated its work in the organization and focuses on compliance with the provisions of the Law on Food Sovereignty and Security and nutritional education, approved by the National Assembly of People’s Power.
