On the night of last Tuesday, May 7, the La Esperanza village, located in the municipality of Iles, was shaken by an avalanche that left multiple damages. The aqueduct was damaged and There are homes with structural damage that affects 6 to 8 families, fortunately there are no injuries.

According to stories from his relatives, the problem seems to have its origins in the construction of a new road in the area. The presence of the concessionaire responsible for said work has been indicated as insufficient in terms of finding solutions to avoid these incidents.

Among the affected people is the family of the lady Teresa Champutis. She has suffered the consequences of this natural disaster on four different occasions.

Mrs. Champutis and her family are desperate about the situation, especially because this winter they have been affected again by inclement weather.

Teresa Champutis’ story becomes even more worrying because she is the mother of three adult children with disabilities. Facing the difficult task of being the head of the household practically alone, Teresa cries out for help from local and regional authorities to find a definitive solution to this problem that has repeatedly put the stability and security of her family at risk.

“I am a woman who heads a family, I have three disabled children, I am alone, this is the only house I have, I don’t know where to go, I need you to please help us, collaborate with us,” Teresa pointed out.

They ask for relocation of homes and donations

The mayor of Iles, together with the community, has requested the support of the Government of Nariño, represented by Luis Alfonso Escobar Jaramillo, as well as the Disaster Management Unit and the ANI (National Infrastructure Agency) and the Southern Road Union. The call is clear: work together to relocate affected families and repair the damage that has affected the entire community.

From the municipal administration, led by the mayor Jhon Haider Táquez Chávez, a commitment has been announced to address this situation as a priority. And they called on the entire Ileña community to join this solidarity cause, donating non-perishable food, water, toiletries and blankets to provide support to those who need it most in these difficult times.

In the morning, the Iles arcadia toured the area to evaluate the damage. The mayor pointed out that the avalanche destroyed the aqueduct, roads, crops, animals, among other damages.

They said that they have delivered food, water, and cleaning supplies and that they are evaluating the relocation of the homes; they hope to do so with the support of the Government of Nariño.
