Last Saturday, a downpour triggered leaks that resulted in the collapse of a corner of the atrium of the Santo Domingo de Guzmán church.

Faced with this scenario, a team from the Government mobilized quickly to delimit the affected area and implement emergency measures aimed at ensuring the structural integrity of the religious temple.

“We are providing full collaboration with additional assistance and support as a positive response to the parishioners and the municipality of Usiacurí in general. Our team of secretaries carried out the assessment of the damage and a repair schedule for the atrium structure was established,” he claimed the governor of the Atlantic Eduardo Verano.

The works in the church

The Secretary of Infrastructure, Azael Charris, He explained that the interventions were carried out in a timely manner after landslides were detected on the church slope due to water infiltration and soil instability.

“The problem is now being corrected, the Government is doing so by placing a retaining wall and the idea is to seal all infiltrations that occur in the soil mass to avoid instability of the slope,” Charris explained.

Father Emigdio Cantillomunicipal priest, praised the promptness with which the emergency was attended and the risks in the affected area were reduced.

“The religious and general community appreciates all the efforts of the Government to return the atrium in optimal conditions, so that as soon as possible everything returns to normal in the church facilities,” he said.

A municipality of peace

Usiacurí has 23 neighborhoods, 17 Community Action Boards and no townships, the violence that has hit a large part of the national geography has not yet done so here.

Usiacuri does not need major events to transcend; on the contrary, its condition as a haven of peace, the quality of its crafts, the beauty of its landscapes are the heritage that thousands of tourists come to know.

From the upper part of the town you can see the colorful roofs.

The beauty and tranquility of Usiacurí shine from the entrance where the visitor is welcomed by The Knitting Muse, an 8-meter stainless steel chandelier that was designed in tribute to the industriousness of the artisans. Its main road is built with cobblestones, painted red, yellow and green.

Along the road there are no holes or garbage like in other nearby towns.

The neatness in the houses and streets is obvious. It is impossible not to feel instant fascination with this land, whose topography turns it into an authentic live nativity scene, the genuine ‘Bethlehem’ of the Atlantic.
