Next Thursday, May 16 at 9 p.m., the Juan Carlos Saravia Provincial Theater will vibrate under the direction of Elizabeth Vergara Gallego. The stable body will offer a captivating program that will transport the audience through different eras and emotions.

The concert will feature outstanding pieces from the classical repertoire, among which the “Clarinet Concerto No. 1, Op. 1” by Bernhard Henrik Crusell and the “Symphony No. 3, Op. 56, Scottish” by Félix Mendelssohn stand out. To interpret these masterpieces, there will be a performance by soloist Raúl Traver Castelló on the clarinet.

Tickets are available for purchase at www.saltaticket.gob.ar and at the Teatro Provincial box office. In addition, students and seniors will be able to access free tickets exclusively at the Provincial Theater box office, presenting the corresponding credentials.

It should be noted that those tickets that have already been actually purchased will be valid for the performance on Thursday, May 16.

Raúl Traver Castelló, clarinet

Raúl Traver is one of the most outstanding clarinetists of his generation. The 12 awards in national and international competitions have led him to establish a career as a soloist, chamber musician and pedagogue around the world.

Noteworthy concerts as a soloist in the historic State Chapel of Saint Petersburg, the KBS Concert Hall in Seoul, the Darmstadt Festival, invited by Maestro W. Seelinger, last assistant conductor of Maestro Leonard Bernstein, in addition to performing the Mozart Concerto in numerous occasions in the United States, Switzerland, Spain and South Korea. He has had the honor of premiering solo and chamber music works dedicated to him such as the I Concert of Ò. Senén, Dreams of Peace by J. Blesa, Expira Aeternitatis by D. Eres Brun, the quintet Beyond the Music, the trio for viola, piano and clarinet by J. Domingo and the septet Sounds for Cervantes.

Among the master classes held are international institutions and festivals such as the North American Valley Utah University of Performing Arts, Utah State University, Snow College Music Center, Brigham Young University, University of Lousiville, New Music Festival, Tuacahn International Summer Music Festival, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro of Brazil, National University of the Arts and Catholic University of Salta in Argentina, National Conservatory of Music of Ioannina in Greece, St. Petersburg International Festival in Russia, Interlaken-Classics International Festival in Switzerland, International Academy of Music from Seoul in South Korea, International Festival Eduardo Ocon International Festival, Daniel Fortea Festival, Beyond the Music Festival in Spain.

He graduated with highest qualifications from the “Salvador Seguí” Superior Conservatory of Music in Castellón, from the Reina Sofía Superior School of Music in Madrid, and from the International Institute of Chamber Music in Madrid. Among her main teachers and influences are Michel Arrignon, Yehuda Gilad, Sabine Meyer and Sharon Kam. Subsequently, she obtained a master’s degree in musical research and performance at the International University of Valencia. In 2020 she wrote her first book titled “double staccato on the clarinet, analysis, technique and its contemporary use”.

Currently, he is clarinet assistant soloist of the Salta Symphony Orchestra and professor of the clarinet chair at the Catholic University of Salta.

About the composers

Bernhard Henrik Crusell was a prominent Swedish-Finnish composer and clarinetist born in 1775 and died in 1838. He is considered one of the most important clarinetists of his time and one of the main clarinet composers of the classical and romantic period.

Crusell developed his musical career in Sweden and Finland, standing out for his virtuosity as a clarinet player and for his compositions for this instrument. He is especially known for his series of three clarinet concertos, with the Clarinet Concerto No. 1, Op. 1, being one of his most recognized works.

His compositions are appreciated for their melodic elegance, harmonic ingenuity, and his ability to explore the technical and expressive possibilities of the clarinet. Crusell contributed significantly to the instrument’s repertoire and left a lasting legacy in classical music.

About Felix Mendelssohn

Félix Mendelssohn was an influential composer, pianist, conductor and pedagogue of the Romantic period. He was born on February 3, 1809 in Hamburg, Germany, and died on November 4, 1847 in Leipzig, Germany.

Mendelssohn was a prodigy at both the piano and composition. He is known for his brilliant melodic style, his ability to develop classical musical forms and his masterful use of orchestration. Among his most famous works are the overture “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, his “Violin Concerto in E minor”, the “Scottish” and “Italian Symphonies”, as well as his “Symphony No. 4 in A major , Op. 90, Italiana”.

In addition to his talent as a composer, Mendelssohn was also a noted conductor and played a crucial role in revitalizing interest in the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. He founded the Bach Society in 1839 and conducted the first 19th-century performance of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion in 1829.

Mendelssohn left a lasting legacy in classical music and remains widely admired and studied today for his creative genius and his impact on the development of Romantic music.

His work “Symphony No. 3, Op. 56, Scottish” will be part of the repertoire scheduled for next Thursday, May 9 at 9 p.m. at the Juan Carlos Saravia Provincial Theater.
