Two fires caused intense firefighting movement in Valparaíso and Viña del Mar during the morning and midday. In the first case, the fire affected the premises of the Kovacs automotive company on the Santos Ossa hill, which left one worker injured. The second event meant the destruction of a home in Viña del Mar.
Carlos Vega Stuardo, 3rd lieutenant of the Tenth Company, officer in charge of the Santos Ossa fire, explained the emergency where a workshop was affected.
The incident was initially ruled as structural, but was later recategorized as industrial. Four companies from the Valparaíso Fire Department worked to contain the fire and, in parallel, the affected company activated its contingency plan, preventively evacuating 20 workers.
In parallel, a house was completely destroyed after the accident that affected a mixed-material home on Rodrigo de Triana street with 21 de Mayo, on the border of the Recreo and Esperanza hills. Eight fire companies arrived at the scene.
