A wide strip of Neuquén and Río Negro is reached by a yellow alert from the Notional Meteorological Service (SMN), both due to intense rains and snowfall, with accumulations close to 15 centimeters. The warning extends until the morning of this Sunday, May 12.
The part was issued in the middle of a bad weather front which especially impacts the mountain area of both provinces and also in the Alto Valle, where even sleet could not be ruled out at some point during the weekend.
In the areas affected by snowfall, according to the SMN, “locally strong” phenomena are expected and “accumulated snow values between 10 and 15 cm, which may be exceeded from time to time.” Furthermore, the highest records are expected in higher elevation areas.
Regarding the rain forecast, the national organization reported that some “intense and persistent. Accumulated precipitation values are estimated between 10 and 30 mm, which may be exceeded occasionally. “It is not ruled out that in some areas the phenomenon is mixed rain and snow.”

Confluence – East of Añelo – East of Pehuenches – Picún Leufú: In this area the alert is for rain, and will extend from early morning to Sunday morning.

East of El Cuy – General Roca: This sector is under a rain alert, from early morning to Sunday morning.
When will the snow arrive in the upper valley of Neuquén and Río Negro
After the historic snowfall in Barilochethe Cipolletti Meteorological Stationof the National Metereological Servicereported that there is «chance of snow precipitation” in it Upper Neuquén Valley and Río Negro.
«The models are giving chance of snow precipitation very close to our region of the Alto Valle,” the organization detailed on the social network replicated on Facebook.
