In an episode that has caused commotion in Bucaramanga, an individual challenged the traffic on one of the city’s busiest highways by walking in the wrong direction and in the middle of vehicles that were traveling at high speed. The event took place on the road that connects the capital of Santander with Floridablanca, specifically on the Provenza bridge.

A video that has gone viral on social networks captured the moment in which this man, dressed in an Atlético Bucaramanga shirt, walked with total carelessness along the lane designated for vehicular flow. While he did so, he even kept his arms open, an attitude that some netizens have described as defiant.

The reckless action forced the drivers to maneuver to avoid colliding with the pedestrian, who seemed not to realize the seriousness of the situation in which he found himself. Although the video shows the man walking alone for a few meters near the Provenza bridge, it is not certain how long he was in the middle of the highway or how far he traveled.

The authorities have not yet issued an official statement about the incident, but the community has expressed concern because this type of behavior increases the risk of traffic accidents, a problem that has claimed numerous lives in the region in recent years.

Santander has been one of the departments most affected by traffic accidents in recent years. Between 2021 and 2022, more than 800 people were reported killed in road accidents in this region of the country. For the first half of 2023, 187 fatalities were recorded in traffic accidents, which represented an increase of 2.2% compared to the same period of the previous year.

The Ministry of Transportation has warned about the worrying increase in mortality due to road accidents in Santander, pointing out that cities such as Bucaramanga and Cartagena concentrate a significant part of the deaths related to this type of events.
