STOCKTON, Ala. (WALA) – There are still many more questions than answers surrounding a tragic mass shooting in Stockton over the weekend where 18 people were shot, three losing their lives. There has still been no arrest and investigators said Monday afternoon, May 13, 2024 they’re extremely frustrated with the lack of cooperation from those who were there.

It was a chaotic scene at an annual Mayday event after investigators said at least one gunman opened fire, shooting into a crowd of people. The celebration took place on private property off Bryant’s Landing Road.

Some who were there told FOX10 News the shooter was a man in a wheelchair and that they heard gunfire coming from other directions as well. The crowd, estimated by the Sheriff’s Office to be around a thousand people, scattered. By the time the shooting finished, 18 people had been shot. Investigators said three people died.

Family members of two of the victims have identified them to FOX10 News. Mother of four, 37-year-old Chiquita Ewing and 24-year-old Christian Bradley were both killed. Captain Andre Reid with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office is over Investigations Command and spoke about what he called the senseless loss of life and the level of frustration he feels towards uncooperative witnesses.

“We’ve had a few. It’s just not enough. I just don’t, don’t understand. You know, a thousand people plus, and no one can tell me directly. No one can just walk up and say, I know who did it,” Reid said. “We all live right here together and that’s why we need it and it becomes a little bit frustrating when you’re trying to solve an issue for a family who’s lost someone. They’re getting ready for funerals and they’re waiting on an answer from me, and I can’t give it to them. Yet, I have to have people that cooperate. “I have to have people that tell me what happened,” Reid continued. “We have to put all the pieces together. Not just one or two things. We have to have it all. I can’t pursue someone with part of the story, so that’s what we’re waiting on is the full story and who did what.”

We don’t yet know the identity of the third victim since so far, none of the names have been released by the Sheriff’s Office. Witnesses told FOX10 News there were law enforcement officers working security at the event Saturday night. It’s not clear how those officers responded when the shooting started.

Investigators said the suspected shooter is not one of the 15 shooting victims who were hospitalized.

Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the shootings to contact the Sheriff’s Office and tell them what you saw.
