Documenta Sur is the equivalent of a scholarship of seven thousand dollars. In addition, one of those chosen will be able to access the Santiago LAB of the SANFIC Industria 2024.

Three projects belonging to filmmakers from Los Ríos were selected to participate in the third version of Documenta Sur, a training and consulting space for feature-length documentary projects made in Chile.

The initiative is financed by the Audiovisual Development Fund, Call 2023, of the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage.

After receiving 25 initiatives in the development stage, a committee of specialists chose 15. Among them, three are from the Los Ríos region.

This is “When the fog advances”, by Cuello Negro Films. The creation is directed by Jaime Díaz, produced by Aukaleb Ankaro and Cristian Lagos.

Added to them is “Las Mulatas: Echoes of dispossession”, by Ojo Curioso. Directed by Priscilla Torres and produced by Eladio Arcos.

Finally, “The Conference” by Propaganda Cine was selected. This documentary work is directed by Rodrigo Marín and produced by Valentina Roblero Arellano.

What’s coming

After the official selection, its directors and producers will participate in online workshops with various professionals from the international film industry, to address artistic and technical aspects related to the documentary.

Highlights, for example, are the documentary view from a gender perspective, the stages of production, distribution and sales; and legal aspects of the documentary. The workshops will be taught by Violeta Percia (Argentina), Marcel Beltrán (Cuba), Diego Corsini (Spain), Patricia Renjifo (Colombia), Sofía Márquez (Mexico), Luisa Velosa (Colombia) and Paula Gastaud (Brazil).

Paula Gastaud, academic coordinator of Documenta Sur expressed that “we are very happy with the quantity and quality of the projects nominated, especially due to the large number of regional projects (…). I think that diversity in themes and characters draws attention and is key to starting the laboratory. We will have a wide variety of powerful, unique narratives with very rich content to work on their internationalization.”

He added that “the selected professionals will meet international experts who will provide them with individual advice and a lot of relevant information. They will have the opportunity to work on the film dossiers in detail for future financing and possible international partnerships. The participants also compete for prizes for their productions, such as a scholarship to participate in the Santiago Lab within the framework of the 20 years of SANFIC.”

Selection to participate in Documenta Sur is the equivalent of a scholarship of seven thousand dollars. In addition, one of those chosen will be able to access the Santiago LAB of the SANFIC Industria, which is a space for the development of film projects that are in the script writing, pre-production and/or production stage.
