This Thursday, May 23, the premiere of “Furiosa: From the Mad Max Saga” will take place, it is the fifth post-apocalyptic adventure film written and directed by Australian director George Miller. The origin of this cult saga goes back to 1979 with Mel Gibson as the protagonist, in the role of police officer Max Rockatansky, who must face gangs that steal basic resources in a dystopian future (but increasingly closer to reality) in where water, fuel and energy are scarce. The first film shows the internal transformation of the protagonist as a result of revenge, an emotion that transcends the entire saga.

Furiosa is a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, it takes place 15 years before the film that thrilled us with a magnificent Charlize Theron, along with Tom Hardy and Nicholas Hoult. In this film, Mad Max believes that the best way to survive is to go out into the world alone. However, he finds himself drawn into a group fleeing across the desert in a War Rig driven by an elite Empress: Furiosa. They escape from a Citadel tyrannized by Immortan Joe, from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Enraged, the Warmaster mobilizes all of his gangs and relentlessly pursues the rebels in a high-revving “road war.”

In this latest installment, George Miller shows us the young Furiosa being snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and trapped by a large Horde of Bikers led by the Warlord Dementus. Razing the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortal Joe. As the two Tyrants fight for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she gathers the means to find her way back home.

For Claudio Pereira, INSOMNIA programmer: “the saga continues, this time, from the origin. Furiosa is the new installment of the saga created in the late 1970s by George Miller where the narrative center is people trying to survive in the midst of the remains of a disaster. What is so fascinating about the post-apocalyptic imagination? In Mad Max, once civilization succumbs due to its own destructive logic, barbarism and violence predominate, promoting fear and myth. In Furiosa the infernal machines return, violence is necessary to survive and a mystique that allows what remains of humanity to flourish. Without a doubt, it will be our great premiere as it combines the addictive stridency of the best mainstream cinema with the eye of the acclaimed George Miller. This autumnal gem will surely resonate like a furious engine for much of the year.”
