In Chile there are some benefits that can be received by students in Chile for travel to another country for study purposes. For example, if you plan to travel to USAthere are some study visas that you can receive by meeting certain requirements such as in its format F and M.

Visa F

  • Allows you to enroll in academic programs in universities, institutes, secondary schools, private primary schools, seminaries, conservatories and other educational institutions.
  • Allows you to work within the campus or in a company authorized by the educational institution.

M Visa

  • Only applies to study at vocational institutions or academic institutions not recognized by the US government.
  • Does not allow work on or off campus.

Visitor visa for tourism (B1)

  • It doesn’t allow you to study to obtain a degree or academic certificate.
  • You can use it for short recreational study courses that do not lead to a degree.

How I requested?

Follow these steps to get a F and M student visa in the United States:

1. Acceptance into a SEVP school:

  • You must be accepted into a school or educational program approved by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP).
  • Once accepted, you will be registered in the Program Information System (SEVIS).
  • You will have to pay the SEVIS I-901 fee and you will receive the I-20 form.

2. DS-160 visa application:

  • Complete and submit the DS-160 form (nonimmigrant visa application) online.
  • Print the request confirmation page.

3. Consular interview:

  • Schedule a consular interview at the United States embassy or consulate in your country.
  • Bring the I-20 form with you, DS-160 Application Confirmation Page and required supporting documents.
  • Attend your consular interview and honestly answers the consular officer’s questions.

Backup documents:

  • Valid passport
  • Proof of sufficient funds to cover the costs of studies and maintenance
  • Evidence of ties to your country of origin (proving that you will return after completing your studies)
  • Other letters or documents that support your request
