“We invite you to see the classic Veterans against Centro Ciudad, which is played at full capacity,” thus it was sealed with now! the intention of having him in the new rivalry or “Parks derby” of futsal, again, like more than two decades ago, active at the Ateneo Fernando de Dios. The former Citroën or El Bosque, among other teams, and the memory of the most massive stage of this modality here, meant that, from the stands, the ball was once again placed facing the goal, with the best of intentions.

On the Hala Madrid! side, Pedro Luis Moreno, president of the Veterans Club, details how they created the project and gave the first kicks: “The idea came from several former soccer players and practitioners, who undertook the task of create it. Our province was the headquarters of the National First Category Futsal League and that helped a lot to reach an agreement, because we agreed at the Ateneo. The emergence was recreationally on March 27, 2022; The word competition did not appear at all, it was something spontaneous and we did not have established teams. Currently, we organize three annual cups, lasting between three and a half or four calendar months. The schools are now identified, have names and have gained identity.

“Now we are developing an event with five teams on Sundays, with two games a day. We are quite close to the official, because we inserted two periods of 20 minutes and 10 minutes of rest, although we have our own regulations, based on a consensus and supported by Omar Montero, provincial commissioner of Más Universal, Héctor Ramírez, the goal man of football from Holguín, the Doctor of Sciences Alexánder Castro, who from Angola (where he carries out sports collaboration) has cooperated a lot with his criteria, the Carrasquel brothers and other people. “Competence, organization and long life have been guaranteed.”

A tournament that is respected includes its rules, adapted to the world ones, and the Club has understood, according to its vice president Andro Pérez: “The Regulations originated in meetings of the board of directors, together with the team captains, and were drafted demanding discipline, mainly. And it works, each group is made up of, at most, three pre-veterans, between 35 and 40 years old, and the rest are veterans, although in the current Cup there is a guest cast, from Cimex, in which workers are active. youths. For example, splashing, that is, lying on the floor to remove the ball, is not allowed, in order to protect the opponent and avoid injuries. We have received referee support from Yuliet Romero and other referees, and we turn to former players with technical mastery, to make up for any absence and provide justice.”

Academically and institutionally, Master Eliécer Alonso, a professor at the Faculty of Physical Culture in Holguín for more than four decades, is one of those who is pleased to return to the field on weekends of remaining years.

“A series of players who represented the province at the national and international level are grouped together, both in eleven and indoor football, and beautiful experiences are lived again. Always with the intention of performing and sharing. From the point of view of Physical Culture, we promote to improve or maintain the quality of life, and eliminate activities that are not beneficial to health. Friendship relationships are reestablished and emerge. You meet other people who did not coincide in football with you or the experienced ones meet again. It focuses on vitality and education, activating us in sports with a social perspective, and promoting values,” says Alonso.

For Danis Angarica, gastronomic, the intention of imitating Falcao’s dribbles – the ‘O Rei’ of futsal – was left behind, but the renewal of energy appeared: “Getting together, after a long time without practicing, has a positive impact on us. We relax too, because we come here after a week of work. At first, we played two 10-minute halves, but we were out of the game and with no sporting form, since the vast majority of us were over 40 years of age. We went for a walk and got tired, going out to recover. As we have been attending on Sundays, we have noticed improvements physically, and obviously in individual and collective quality. And the competitiveness surpassed the formality of the first meetings, since games were played from cup to cup, maintaining fraternization.”

Accumulating youth by taming the ball at court level is what Wilfredo Pérez does, a self-employed person who participated in national events from a young age to the youth category. The captain of Centro Ciudad explains how one comes to belong to the Verdeamarelos: “Everything starts from residing in some neighborhood in that environment. Substitutions in matches, in our case, given that this sport (and more so nowadays) is about quick actions, we try to make them happen after four or five minutes or so, little by little. There are times when we join in training with the Holguín First Category team, since coach Kárel Mariño, a World Cup winner, is a member of the team. Thus we work at greater intensity and cooperate in their preparation, who will be in the upcoming Cuban League. We have been champions once and we are doing very well in this cup, with stable results and thinking about arguing in the final.”

Colliding, finishing or dribbling are veterans and pre-veterans from Holguín. They made a logo and spread Sunday incidents in the media and social networks. Finishes are not considered those who revitalize the good vibes of futsal and the emblematic facility on Avenida Capitán Urbino.
