ELCHE. The signature MATCH biosystems of the Science Park of the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (PCUMH) has developed a method for manufacturing IVD (in vitro diagnostic) kits, stable at room temperature, and an IVD solution for the rapid diagnosis of infectious diseases in high-risk patients. The innovation of its developments has led the company to be classified as one of the twenty best companies worldwide in the biomedical sectorafter placing number 19 in the ‘VII China International Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition’.

The company, which was awarded in the national phase of this competition in July in Madridhas competed in this event, held in the region of Guangming, Shenzhen (China) with companies from Silicon Valley (United States), Germany, Israel and Japan, among others, and with industry experts and academics from centers of prestige such as Oxford, MIT (Massachussets Institute of Technology) and even companies that have Nobel Prize winners on their advisory panel.

During its stay in China, the company has also been able to establish contact with qualified investors in the region and with institutions such as SMD (Small Medical Drugs) to evaluate possible collaborations.

MATCH biosystems’ innovation consists of a global diagnostic solution for quickly, reliably and easily identify invasive fungal infections in high-risk patients. Specifically, its first development allows the diagnosis of 100% of possible cases of Invasive Candidiasis (one of the most virulent types of sepsis), reducing diagnosis times from the current standard, between two and five days, in just a couple of hours, thus preventing and avoiding complications caused by this fungus. This kit includes all the elements necessary to make the specific diagnosis using a simple protocol that makes it easy to incorporate into clinical workflows.

The kit is also universal in terms of compatibility with thermal cyclers (PCR machines) currently available in clinical laboratories. Another of its great advantages is its stability at room temperature, that is, it does not need to be stored or shipped, maintaining the cold chain for optimal conservation, thus reducing related operational costs by >80%. Thus, the final added value translates into a reduction in mortality rates, a decrease in adverse effects and resistance in pathogenic microorganisms, and in lower spending on healthcare systems and bed occupancy in hospital centers.

MATCH biosystems is a biomedical company promoted by Adrian H Teruel and focused on the development of IVD kits for the rapid diagnosis of infectious diseases in high-risk patients. The company has the IVD manufacturing license, granted by the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS). In addition, its facilities include an ISO 7 area, an international standard that guarantees air control and the sterility of the work environment, and BSL 2, the biosafety level necessary for a laboratory that works with pathogens associated with infectious diseases.
