The Provincial Institute of Statistics and Censuses of Misiones (IPEC) presents “Misiones Natural Capital”, an unpublished document that seeks to recognize and value the natural wealth of the province and its contribution to the well-being of the community.
This is a comprehensive approach that allows the identification and quantification of Misiones’ natural assets, such as forests, wetlands and croplands.
It also helps understand the ecosystem and abiotic services that these assets provide, such as energy, food, wood, air quality and recreation opportunities.
In short, this methodological proposal provides a tool to make informed decisions about the sustainable management of natural resources.
Likewise, by understanding the real value of natural capital, policies and strategies can be designed that promote economic development in harmony with the conservation of natural heritage.
The implementation of this methodology can ensure the provision of essential ecosystem services and allow the promotion of sustainable economic activities, generating employment and opportunities for local communities.
