Hernández Lárez explained that the structure was located in the Morroco sector for ground patrol and surveillance tasks that are part of Operation Neblina 2024, created in Amazonas – according to the FANB – to protect natural spaces, such as national parks and monuments, forest and biosphere reserves.
Illegal miners evicted
Last March, Hernández Lárez reported that they were more than 7,000 people evicted who practiced illegal mining in the states of the region that make up the Venezuelan Amazon, Amazonas and Bolívar.
According to the environmental NGO Provita, the Venezuelan Amazon is home to great biodiversity and is rich in natural, cultural and mineral resources, where there are also around 2.3 million people, including the largest indigenous population in Venezuela.
According to the FANB, more than 2,500 soldiers are deployed in national parks, forest reserves and hydrographic basins on missions against illegal mining.
