Providing educators and teachers in the Aysén region with the background to better understand key concepts related to climate change, its causes, impacts and consequences, in order to guide them in the prevention of forest fires, are some of the objectives of the training session carried out jointly by the Regional Ministerial Secretariats of the Environment, Education, through their Provincial Directorate, and the National Forestry Corporation (CONAF) of the Ministry of Agriculture.

In this way, last Thursday, April 16, the workshop “Educating for Resilience: Workshop on Climate Change and Forest Fires for Teachers of the Aysén Region” was held, where nearly 50 teachers from Puerto Aysén, Coyhaique, participated. La Junta, Villa Amengual, Puerto Cisnes and Villa Cerro Castillo, who were trained to address the problems of climate change and forest fires from the classrooms, and together with their students.

At the end of the day, the director of the Aiken Yemel kindergarten in Coyhaique, Radasma Millalonco, highlighted the possibility of exchanging learning with other professionals in the network, pointing out that “it was a very enriching meeting, especially because in our commune there are high levels of contamination.” . We value being able to exchange experiences with those in charge of mitigating climate action, learning new strategies and tools from the institutions that organized this activity. I think it is very important that we can adopt preventive actions with children, from a young age, in initial, pre-basic, basic and secondary education.”
