This Sunday, May 26, the “Big Festival” is held for the Lord of Sumalao, celebrating with a solemn ‘Triduum’, which begins on Friday the 24th with the procession of San Rafael (Patron of Fishermen) with the masses that will begin the 09:00, 11:00, 17:00 and 19:00, where all fishermen participate.

The next day, Saturday the 25th, the mass is celebrated for the Virgin of the Rosary of Sumalao (patron saint of the gauchos) with the procession of the image of the Virgin Mary where all the gauchos present participate and a mass will be held at 09:00 , 11:00, 17:00 and 20:00 hours.

To finish and close the Big Festival, on the third day (Sunday the 26th) at 10:30 the mass of the Holy Trinity is held, which is presided over annually by the archbishop of Salta, with the subsequent performance of the traditional 00 masses. :00, 02:00, 04:00, 06:00, 08:00, 10:30, 17:00 and 19:00 hours and the procession with the Cuzco image.



Sumalao, which in Quechua means “beautiful place”, is today the most important, most typical and most authentic of the Salta pilgrimages, with artisans coming from different places, where in its alleys of land, steaming and fragrant inns of foods that have never been prepared are arranged. close, and where the firewood that heats potbellied iron pots never goes out.

These improvised stands offer the most varied foods and typical drinks from the region that can be enjoyed on site while the Festival lasts.

Likewise, starting tomorrow, Friday the 24th, SAETA will launch the special transportation operation on the occasion of the Big Festival in honor of the Christ of Sumalao. The entire diagram foresees services until Wednesday, May 29 so that the faithful can attend the masses after the main celebration.

Like every year, the cars will depart from the Cable Car Complex on San Martín and Lavalle avenues arriving at the Sumalao school. The amount of the ticket to Sumalao is $490.
