A plenary session was held with more than 36 general secretaries from different confederated unions in the province of La Rioja, which made up the CGT Triunvirato and the CGT San Martín. In communication with La Torre, Jorge Reinoso commented that in this way a single unified CGT was established and with a pair of two regional delegates and a long list that make up the new board of directors.

A binomial with two regional delegates, one from the Legislative Employees Union (SELeR), Raúl Páez and the general secretary of truckers Jorge Reinoso. In turn, the deputy and secretary of SADOP, Fernanda Huser and Alicia Luna, general secretary of the Association of Rioja University Workers (ATUR).

First of all, Luna spoke and explained that “there was an agreement to unify and a call was made last week and now the plenary session and the new steering committee have been formed by a pair of regional delegates. “They are the ones who are going to lead this process where a group of colleagues from different unions are going to work together.”

Next, he maintained that “all the progress without unity is impossible to resolve and this serious situation that we are experiencing in the country and the province, we cannot be apart and the disunity has distanced us a lot and the intention is to be able to advance on all the problems that they have. Workers”.

“Unification by the workers”

For his part, Reinoso stated that “the situation that Rioja workers are experiencing forced us to this unification. Unfortunately we were not able to reach a unit with other colleagues, but we agreed and the national CGT endorsed us with the confirmation of a pairing. All the unions that were part of the plenary are confederated and it is a mandatory requirement that the national CGT demands of us and we were able to form this new unified commission.”

“We are talking about all workers, both private and state, because there are many layoffs currently,” he expressed and regarding next week’s mobilization, he explained that “one of the priority issues is to see how we are going to demonstrate and we are between a vigil or a mobilization and we are going to evaluate what is most effective and that the Base Law is not approved because it has many negative consequences.”

“The idea is to unify forces and work side by side, both the union sector, businessmen and the Government, because I think this is the moment where the country needs us. We are very concerned about the police, teaching and health sectors and we hope that this does not transcend and that our colleagues have a solution.”

At the same time, Páez indicated that “we have been working for this unity for a long time and it is now becoming a reality. We know that the current situation we are experiencing is complicated and we have to face all these challenges. We could not do this without the support of all the workers and committing themselves to the struggle.”

Finally, he highlighted that there are “more than 30 unions that we unified and that are part of this new management council and we leave the doors open for colleagues who are distanced for some reason and we call on them to participate.”
