On the occasion, various issues in the sector that are common in both countries were addressed.
“Chile and Peru have a mining history and this sector is of great importance in their economies, therefore, during my visit to the neighboring country together with the General Director of Mining we analyzed the best forms of exploration and exploitation of lithium and the support for the development of said industry; support in the development of dry or paste tailings treatment; industrialize raw materials in order to take advantage of the synergy between Chile’s smelters and Peru’s immense production of copper concentrates; recover traces of all the minerals contained in the concentrates that are exported to China and to all countries in order to improve the value and useful content of the sale of products, in the technical field,” he noted.
Viera added that other topics of interest were the Chilean-Peruvian mining alliance that is being developed, a point at which it was specified that other institutions should be incorporated into the joint work, such as suppliers, academics, expert professionals and, for obvious reasons, the various institutions. ; support the creation of a Peruvian Enami in order to eliminate illegal mining and informal mining, taking advantage of the great experience that Chile has in this regard.
“Another issue that can be taken advantage of is the great experience that the Lima Stock Exchange has, which is quite large, and the experience they have in trading mining projects and prospects; create a stock market of mining properties that have been passive for a long time so that they can be traded on the Stock Exchange, as well as old tailings with high mineral content to transform them into active tailings,” he specified.
Finally, the president of the Chilean Mining Chamber said that the idea is to strengthen this Chilean-Peruvian alliance that produces 40% of the world’s copper. “The important thing is to generate synergies and stand before the world for new negotiations in which copper, lithium and other critical minerals are protected as strategic minerals and sell them better. I want to highlight the will of the Peruvian representative Jorge Soto with whom I had a very pleasant and productive meeting,” he concluded.
