Felipe Harman, director of the National Land Agency, was present on the ‘El Calentao’ program to announce that the government headed by President Gustavo Petro will deliver around 6,000 hectares to the farmers in Magdalena on May 30.

Harman specified the role of his dependency in the land delivery process: “land restitution is one thing, which is returning the land dispossessed because this country has not had agrarian reform for 100 years. What the National Land Agency does is agrarian reform, which is buying land for landless peasants, distributing it and formalizing land.”

“We have delivered more than 80,000 hectares and I hope that with the activities we have on May 30, we will deliver 6,000 hectares with President Petro in Magdalena and on June 6 we will deliver another 10,000 hectares,” said the director.

Regarding the ownership of the lands and the return of peasants to them, the official explained “we have activated the agrarian reform system in order to move forward several components: the first of them is to formalize the land and the others are activated, that is, The Agrarian Bank is activated with credit requests, the Rural Development Agency is activated to establish the productive project, in some cases the mayors and governorships are activated and from this we are progressing in the activity with the idea that this country is more productive in agricultural development”.

Finally, he spoke about the incentives that farmers will have to start the productivity of the land: ”immediately once the land is provisionally delivered, the Rural Development Agency will be establishing the productive project. We want the process to be faster and we have challenges ahead. You have to do a serious planning process for the property. “It is not only about distributing land, but also about social organization of the farm.”
