Winter Operation: The city of Santa Fe assists more than 100 people every day

During the fall and winter, where temperatures drop exponentially, the Municipality of Santa Fe began a social assistance program to serve homeless people. Through the Secretariat of Social Policies, municipal personnel visit different parts of the city to cover their basic needs.

In this framework, a daily professional task is carried out with a territorial, community and proximity approach. This work is reflected in the kitchen of the Comprehensive Community Center (CIC) of Facundo Zuviría, located at Av. Facundo Zuviría 8002, where from Monday to Monday 100 portions of food are cooked and distributed and given at night to people in need. street Two groups of workers leave to make a trip to the north and another to the south to deliver the portions, to which a hot infusion is added. These rations are financed with municipal funds and up to a third of their outsourced price is saved.

Mayor Juan Pablo Poletti toured the facilities and was grateful to the municipal staff for such a social task. “We know that it is a difficult problem to deal with, but it is important for us to maintain and improve these tasks. “We are living in a complicated economic context and we cannot deviate from the reality of these Santa Fe residents who also need us.”he expressed.

The coordinator of Immediate Social Interventions and Nutrition graduate, Daiana Marano, commented on the daily planning carried out by the municipality. “We have a professional team in two shifts. We are involved in the issue with nutritionists and social workers. “Some people tell us that it is the only ration of food they receive per day, that is why we make sure that it has a high calorie and nutritional content for them”held.

In addition to this attention, the Municipality works in the complex “Blessed Clara Bosatta House”, located at Av. Blas Parera 7740, which functions as a shelter for 40 people who go there to spend the night. In this place, people receive not only dinner, but also have breakfast and medical check-ups. These actions are also carried out with municipal personnel and funds, although donations made by the Food Bank are added.

The director of Social Action of the Municipality, María Soledad García, commented on how they are taking over from these people: “We travel through the city from north to south and as a route map we use the calls that come to the Citizen Assistance System (SAC) 0800-777-5000. We also work with institutions and spontaneous demands that reach Social Action. We coordinate a lot with institutions, because there are people who do not want to stay because they have some problematic consumption patterns, so special attention is required for each case.”

Finally, the Municipal Social Action area clarifies that the admission requirement to spend the night in the complex “Blessed Clara Bosatta House” are “health checks, medication compliance. This work is coordinated with professionals from various nearby health centers and hospitals to check the information correctly and each situation is addressed.”
