The Plenary Room of the Supreme Court of Justice determined that the Investigative Chamber, of that same corporation, will have the jurisdiction to investigate the Colombian ambassador to the FAO, Armando Benedetti, for the crime of alleged illicit enrichment of a public servant.

Since September 2022, the case was in limbo, jumping back and forth between the Prosecutor’s Office and the Supreme Court, both alleging lack of jurisdiction to advance the investigation of the former senator.

“The investigation against Ambassador Armando Benedetti is the responsibility of the #InstructionRoom of the @CorteSupremaJ. “The Plenary Chamber resolved the conflict between the Prosecutor’s Office and the Investigative Chamber in the process being carried out for the crime of illicit enrichment of a public servant,” The Court ruled this Thursday.

The investigation into the official began after he could not sufficiently explain his assets with several properties in Barranquilla, a mansion in Puerto Colombia and Bogotá, as well as transfers abroad made by people within their Legislative Work Unit; one of those people was the current director of the Administrative Department of the Presidency of the Republic, Laura Sarabia.

Previously, in an investigation before the Supreme Court, Benedetti assured that to buy one of those properties, businessman Euclides Torres lent him the money. Precisely, it is that same businessman from the coast, who has been mentioned as an alleged financier of the Petro Presidente campaign in 2022.
