Antonio Hurtado asks the mayor to create and promote the new Córdoba Convention Bureau

The socialist spokesperson in the Córdoba City Council, Antonio Hurtado, has proposed today, through a public statement, to the mayor of Córdoba, José María Bellido (PP), to promote and create the new Córdoba Convention Bureau through public-private collaboration to promote the holding of congresses, fairs and conventions in the capital.

Hurtado has stated that “it is necessary to move on from the sponsorship policy and offer the Córdoba Exhibition, Fair and Convention Center (CEFC) free of charge, which is what is carried out by the local government of the mayor, José María Bellido (PP ), with terrible results, to the collaborative tourism policy of both public and private actors to present the best offer on congressional tourism.

To this end, it has opted to value Córdoba as a meeting place for science, culture, sports, tourism, reflection and dialogue, “taking advantage of the many good attributes recognized for Córdoba at an international level, as a World Heritage city, with good hotel infrastructure, hospitable, well connected, with rich traditions, with gastronomy of excellence, with an important cultural offer and environmental wealth.

The socialist has considered that it would be the best way to achieve coordination and take advantage of synergies between the public and private initiatives that exist, “offering the two important public congressional facilities that we have: The Torrijos Palace of the Junta de Andalucía, and the Exhibition, Fair and Convention Center in Joyero Park, municipally owned, in addition to other private facilities available in the city for this type of events.

For Hurtado, it is about creating “the great ambassador of Córdoba”, promoting the city as the best setting for holding conventions, congresses, fairs and exhibitions and guaranteeing visitors an alternative program of excellence to the event.

Another important objective of the Córdoba Convention Bureau would be to convert the competition, which in some cases is unfair, into public-private collaboration to attract events that can be organized and held in the city, Hurtado stated.

The socialist spokesperson considers it “regrettable that we are wasting as many opportunities as we fear and that many congresses, fairs and events are going to other cities that are fighting from all areas, public and private, in a coordinated manner to attract these events, which are of capital importance for our main economic sector, which is tourism.
