The director of the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD), Carlos Carrillo Arenas, indicated that more than $173,000 million pesos were allocated, for the execution of works in the department of Casanare.

According to the official, 10 works have been carried out in 8 municipalities of that region, with the purpose of prevent risks derived from climate phenomena.

Carrillo also made a follow-up visit to the mitigation works in Yopal, Pore, Paz de Ariporo, Trinidad, Villanueva and Sabanalarga.

On the first day of their tour, the Risk Management team inspected critical points such as the ‘Torres del Silencio’ housing project in Yopal and the mitigation works on the Cravo Sur River and the Pauto River.

The Torres del Silencio housing project, which had to be completely demolished due to structural deficiencies that put more than 240 families at risk, was one of the focal points of the visit, as revealed by the entity, since the construction did not comply with the resistance standards and presented serious problems in the foundation.

For his part, on the Cravo Sur River, jurisdiction of the municipality of Pore, Carrillo toured the two kilometers of the work, whose investment amounts to more than $38 billion pesos. This work aims to prevent the river from overflowing, thus protecting local communities.

Carrillo Arenas recognized the will of local authorities to resolve the problems that affect the inhabitants of that region and stated that their presence in the department was intended to collaborate and coordinate joint efforts to offer effective solutions to the communities.

“I hope that next year the majority of the budget will be allocated to the Risk Reduction area. We have several projects in the department of Casanare and the idea is that we will have many more,” said the director.
