Crisis in Misiones: the national government detaches itself from the conflict “the province is an issue”

The Minister of the Interior, Guillermo Francos, assured this Friday that the protests promoted by police, health and education workers in Misiones constitute a “provincial issue” that must be resolved by the local administration.

“Governor Hugo Passalacqua knows that he has our support. I spoke with him these days two or three times. We made ourselves available. But it is an issue to which the province clearly has to find a solution,” said the national official during a interview in Radio Rivadavia.

“The Government cannot get involved in trying to solve the problems because they have their methodologies, their ways,” Francos considered.

“Based on the fact that there is a police complaint and that a sector of the Police stopped, Minister (Patricia) Bullrich immediately made herself available with the federal forces to guarantee security in some place where the Police are not present, but she has not missing,” the official explained.

Francos did not make reference to the funding cuts made by the central government that undermine provincial finances.

Meanwhile, the workers’ camp on Uruguay Avenue in the city of Posadas has been demanding salary and labor improvements for eight days.

This week there were clashes in the Legislature after teachers marched towards the building and tried to enter to make their problems visible. Between stones, tear gas and various elements, there were several people who had to be assisted by the Transportation Network units.

This Thursday, the provincial authorities made a proposal for a 30% increase that was not well received by the protesters who held an assembly and decided to reject it and continue with the force measure.

On the other hand, in different parts of the province of Misiones, roadblocks are being carried out by self-convened teachers who continue with the measures of forces in demand of a salary recomposition and that dialogue be opened with authorities of the province.
