According to CONICET, the most expensive electricity rates are paid in Neuquén and Río Negro

In a report of Interdisciplinary Institute of Political Economy (IIEP) of the National University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and of CONICETthey relieved the drop in subsidies and the increased from the Energy Basket in the Argentinian republic in the first quarter of the year. There, they were able to estimate that the most expensive electricity rates in the country are paid in Neuquén and Río Negrodepending on income level.

The cost of the total basket increased 295% compared to last December, based on the updates of transportation rates, water, electricity and natural gas (these last two, adjusted for seasonality of consumption). In this sense, the largest increase was seen in natural gas, with an increase of 893% compared to the end of 2023. In turn, spending on transportation increased 410%, on water 209% and on electricity 124%.

The main economic subsidies to the “Water, Energy and Transportation” sectors had an accumulated annual growth of 133.4% in April compared to last year; but, due to its real variation, a reduction of 40.8% is recorded. In the first quarter, an execution of 47% was accumulated regarding the current credit for the selected items.

What happens in Neuquén and Río Negro?

According to him Observatory of rates and subsidies IIEP (UBA-CONICET)in May 2024 The average electricity bill in Argentina is $42,877 for a high income household (N1)of $17,453 for a low income household (L2) and of $18,048 for a middle income household (N3). The dispersion of rates is analyzed from the point of view of its composition, which has in the user’s final bill the cost of energy, the charge for the distribution service and taxes, fees and other items.

In this sense, comparing the tariff tables between jurisdictions indicates that, given equal consumption for a final electric bill for 300 Kwh/month, High-income Neuquéns pay the most expensive bill in the country ($65,202). In second place, at the national level, are those of Black river ($60,209). The average bill of an N1 user is 31% explained by the cost of the energy consumed, while 43% corresponds to the distribution charge and the remaining 26% to taxes.

In the comparison, those of low incomes from Rio Negro pay the second rate most expensive in the country, comparing users with the same income in the rest of the country ($35,474 on average). In Neuquenin the table they are found in the 7th placepaying on average $23,782.

In the case of an N2 user (low income), they pay only 5% of the bill on average for energy, while 66% of the bill value is taken up by the distribution charge and the remaining 29% are taxes.

In Río Negro the same thing happens with those of average incomefinishing second nationally ($35,851). Likewise, in Neuquén: seventh in the table, paying on average $24,136.

An N3 user (middle income) pays only 6% of the bill on average for energy, while 65% of the bill value is taken up by the distribution charge and the remaining 29% are taxes.
