The Tourism and Sports Commission of the Legislature analyzed this Friday together with the Minister of Tourism of Chubut, Diego Lapenna, bill No. 94/24, presented by Karina Otero, president of the Commission, Sergio González and Sonia Cavagnini; that establishes a Program for Tourism Investment in the province.

The project was announced a few days ago in Esquel by the governor, Ignacio “Nacho” Torres, together with the vice-governor, Gustavo Menna, the mayor of the town, Matías Taccetta, with the presence of provincial and municipal legislators.

The meeting was attended by the president of the Commission, Representative Otero (Despierta Chubut); and the members Vanesa Abril, Norma Arbilla (Arriba Chubut), Fabián Gandón and Sergio González (Despierta Chubut). Meanwhile, Lapenna was accompanied by Natalia Leske, advisor to the Ministry of Tourism.

Effective work

“We have been working with the minister personally since day one. We are from the same town. That makes the work between the Commission and the Ministry more effective,” said Karina Otero after the meeting.

The deputy thanked “the opposition deputies who were working together today, trying to pass a law that is very favorable for all Chubut residents and for those who want to come and actively develop in the tourist area.”

He explained that “the law has some benefits in exemptions for those who are already working, and for others who want to apply; It also has to do with inviting the municipalities to generate their own ordinance, as Esquel has already done, with benefits in taxes and so on.”

“It is a law that can have its regulatory points in each locality. And that has brought many mayors together,” he said, and gave as an example: “Last week we were with the minister together with the president of National Parks, talking about the importance of this project for the Cordillera, in terms of the development of sustainable tourism. ”. And he appreciated that “the governor has taken the initiative and the political decision” to present the bill.

“The idea is basically that Chubut can be in the shop window of the entire country. If we want to continue on a path of sustainable tourism that generates genuine work, we have to give investors the opportunity to do so,” he indicated.

Necessary investments

Meanwhile, Minister Lapenna indicated: “Although we have been working since day one because there are many issues where we need the Legislature, (the deputies) I put them on the topic of all the things that we have been doing from the Ministry.”

In this sense, he highlighted “the great team I have; At the beginning of my management it was clear that I was still working with the same team as the previous management. Perhaps what was missing was a political decision to understand the importance of tourism for our province, where we have everything.”

In relation to the tourism investment bill, he indicated: “It will be the kick-off and the opening that the province needs so that we begin to have the necessary investments to be in the showcase, as Chubut was at some point.”

“This law tries to be friendly with those who want to invest, with those who want to choose our province as a potential investment area,” he said.

And he emphasized: “We have a province from north to south, from east to west, really enormous, with a diversity of attractions. And we are lacking bed capacity; we lack tourism agencies; “There is a lot of investment missing so that we can develop tourism.”

“I just made a trip of more than 2,000 kilometers, from Esquel, we passed through Río Pico, Río Senguer, Lake La Plata, Camarones; We were in Rada Tilly with the mayor and the governor,” she recalled.

Likewise, he highlighted: “We have whales all year round, we have production, snow. I think what we are missing is this law, which is going to empower and attract people who are interested in our province and who today choose other places, because they have the conditions for them to invest.”

During the Commission meeting, it was agreed to continue analyzing the project in the coming days for its prompt treatment by the Chamber.
