The “jurist” is the unit by which attorneys’ fees are established. This week, the Chamber of Deputies of the Province granted him an increase of more than 300%, which was applauded from the stands by the College of Lawyers.

The way to calculate it is established from 1.5% of the basic salary of a Judge of First Instance, which is currently around 2,700,000 pesos, and for which each unit of this measure went from 9,800 to 40,241 pesos, increase that is around 300%. But this is not all, if it is measured year-on-year, and taking as a reference that in June of last year its value was 2,750 pesos, the increase is greater than 1,300%.

The Chamber of Deputies of the province gave final sanction to the Reform of Law 7046 that regulates the professional fees of lawyers and attorneys and the values increase disproportionately when compared to the few increases that have occurred in the negotiations public and private partnerships in most sectors.

In this way, if the approval by Governor Rogelio Frigerio is approved, a divorce procedure, by which the payment of 66 jurists is established, would go from 181,500 pesos to 2,655,927 pesos. Who will be able to get divorced? In adoption cases, 60 jurists are set, and for filiation cases between 50 and 60 jurists, which leads to thinking about access to justice increasingly reduced to a few with purchasing power. Not to mention criminal cases, where the payment of 120 jurists has been determined, which would bring the amounts, if approved, to more than 4,820,000 pesos.

In the previous provincial administration, the project had been authored by the former provincial deputy and lawyer Carina Ramos, with the co-authors of the lawyers Ángel Giano, Juan Pablo Cosso and Mariana Farfán.

Lugo passed to the Senate in the current government administration and was defended by legislators Rafael Cavagna and Juan Pablo Cosso, also lawyers, where small modifications were introduced.

This week, the project was definitively sanctioned by the Chamber of Deputies; The approval or not by the governor is now awaited.
