Police captured three well-known robbers in Manizales

In a joint effort between the Criminal Investigation Section and the Attorney General’s Office, the capture of three citizens who operated as part of a criminal group dedicated to theft in the form of robbery in Manizales was achieved. This group, known as “Los Galenos”, left their victims in a state of defenselessness, intimidating them with sharp weapons before stripping them of their belongings such as money, jewelry, cell phones and other personal items.

The investigation, which lasted seven months, was based on the use of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), interviews, monitoring and surveillance. During this time, the modus operandi of the criminal structure became evident. The leader of the group, nicknamed “Cristóbal,” was in charge of establishing roles and intimidating people with sharp weapons to strip them of their belongings.

The three captured citizens present notes in the Oral Accusatory Penal System (SPOA) for crimes such as homicide, trafficking, manufacturing or carrying of narcotics, manufacturing, trafficking or carrying of firearms and theft.

The detainees were placed at the disposal of the judicial authority, and a judge of the Republic issued them a measure of intramural security in a penitentiary and prison center.

So far this year, 1,027 people have been captured by court order and in flagrante delicto in Manizales. Of these, 167 have been captured for the crime of theft in its different modalities:

  • Theft from people: 93
  • Theft from commercial entities: 52
  • Theft from residences: 19
  • Motorcycle theft: 3
