Quibdó, May 24, 2024. (@Mincultura). During the Monitoring Commission of the commitments of the Civic Strike for the Salvation and Dignity of Chocó in Quibdó, led by the Ministry of the Interior, the commitments acquired by the different ministries during the Civic Strike of May 29 were monitored. 2017.

Although no specific agreements were reached, a high-level meeting will be held in Bogotá, with the attendance of representatives of the Committee, the government of Chocó and the ministers of the different portfolios of the national government.

“We recognize the firmness, but also the respect with which the meeting was held. The proposal is that they give us a few days to be able to make a clear and concrete response on June 4. “We’re not going to look bad on Chocó,” stated the Minister of the Interior, Luis Fernando Velasco. In addition, on June 3, the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Knowledge will sponsor the follow-up to the agreements with all the ministries in National Planning.

Although support for the Government of change was made clear, the claim of the Chocó people was that they had not yet made concrete progress and highlighted the importance of “a frank conversation“, which will allow us to reach conclusions that will route work to comply with the agreements.

“We are not going to look bad on Chocó,” assured the Minister of the Interior, Luis Fernando Velasco.

The governor of Chocó, Nubia Carolina Córdoba, thanked her for this space, recalled the importance of the commitments made by the State and invited the national government to continue working. ““The commitment was between the people and the State, therefore, it is up to the Government to guarantee that the agreements advance, but facing the people,” said.

For his part, the Minister of Cultures, Arts and Knowledge, Juan David Correa, mentioned the advances in the cultural sector, such as the call for training artists, led by the Technological University of Chocó, which is being carried out through the Sounds for Peacebuilding program.

Among other actions, he mentioned the delivery of the César Conto Theater for August 2025, for which work is already underway and an investment of 15,000 million pesos was secured to continue its construction and the provision of this emblematic place in the city of Quibdó.

Finally, Jhoana Valoyes, representative of the culture table, said “It has been a disciplined table and we have made progress thanks to the fact that for the first time there is a significant investment. With culture, peace is built and a region is built. Culture will allow many young people to have hope.”
