John Makario Londoño, technical director of Geothreats at the SGC, highlighted that these changes are within the threshold of an Orange alert, which implies a greater possibility of an eruption. “These changes are framed within what is an Orange alert, which implies a greater possibility of eruption.“Londoño stressed.
The Orange alert status indicates that there are important alterations in the monitored parameters, but it does not mean that the volcano has returned to its normal levels of activity. If the volcano’s internal processes intensify, suggesting an imminent eruption, the SGC will raise the alert to Red.
The population is urged to stay informed through the official channels of the SGC and the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD). Additionally, it is crucial not to spread rumors or unverified messages on social media to avoid unnecessary panic.
The SGC will continue to closely monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary. Meanwhile, local authorities and risk management teams are on alert and prepared for any eventuality.
