The Cuban leader, who is in the country at the head of the delegation participating in the Fourth Summit of Small Island Developing States taking place this week in Saint John, thanked them for the exemplary service they provide to Antiguans.

The Cuban collaboration in Antigua and Barbuda enjoys the greatest recognition of the authorities and the people, highlighted on the X social network.

Nearly 100 employees provide services in the health, construction and electrical sectors.

The largest brigade is the Health Brigade, with 77 members, most of them women, who work in the two hospitals on both islands.

The cooperation of the Caribbean island in the area of ​​health, he recalled, began in May 2000 and since then its presence has been permanent, admired and demanded.

The contribution to the development of infrastructure and the work of the Unión Eléctrica brigade are also highly recognized, emphasized Valdés Mesa.

In a meeting held the day before with the Cuban vice president, the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Gaston Browne, highlighted that the largest of the Antilles “has helped us improve our capabilities in many sectors, such as health, education, infrastructures.”

In health, he exemplified, we have a large number of Cuban professionals who have contributed to consolidating our health system, to which he added the training of health personnel, including doctors and nurses.

Browne also thanked for the help received during the Covid-19 pandemic, a stage in which “we benefited from the sending of a Henry Reeve brigade, which arrived at the right time, when our health personnel almost felt defeated,” he said.

“Cuba, I would summarize, has always helped us respond to the needs we have had,” stated the Antiguan leader.
