The president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, announced this Sunday that his Government will support the accusation of genocide against Israel presented by South Africa before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) at the end of 2023. “In addition to the humanitarian support that we have provided to the Palestinian people , of the call for consultation of our ambassador in Israel and of presenting together with Mexico a referral of the situation in Palestine before the International Criminal Court, I have decided that Chile will become a party and will support the case that South Africa presented against Israel before the ICJ of La Hague, within the framework of the UN Genocide Convention,” Boric reported during a speech in the National Congress. In this way, the Chilean Executive joins the Governments of Colombia, Brazil, Venezuela, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Cuba, Malaysia, Turkey, Egypt, among others that have already expressed their support for South Africa’s lawsuit against Israel before the ICJ. “We will never stop being outraged by indiscriminate and absolutely disproportionate actions against innocent civilians, particularly Palestinian women and children, with more than 35,000 dead, a catastrophic humanitarian situation and the infrastructure in Gaza practically devastated,” the president added. On the other hand, the Chilean Executive has reported that it “values” and supports the ceasefire proposal presented this Friday by the United States and also signed by the Governments of Egypt and Qatar, which includes the release of the hostages and the delivery of humanitarian aid. “This agreement represents a new effort to end the crisis in the Middle East and constitutes a real opportunity to strengthen peaceful and lasting coexistence between Palestine and Israel, advancing the sustainable implementation of the proposed two-state solution,” it reads. the notice. The Government of Chile has reiterated its willingness to “ensure” an “immediate” ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, as well as its support for the two-state solution and the end of the occupation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Likewise, he has called for the “immediate and unconditional” release of the Israeli hostages held by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).
