The last date of the semifinal quadrangles for group A had a special attraction, and that is that three of the four teams had the possibility of obtaining a place at the end of the semester, being Deportivo Pereira, Bucaramanga and Junior.
The ‘búcaro’ team was the one that ended up being classified due to the combination of its victory against the ‘matecaña’ team and Junior’s defeat against Millonarios.
Precisely, Bucaramanga went out to seek victory in front of its audience at the Alfonso López Departmental Stadium and obtained its reward early on the scoreboard; Fabián Sambueza opened the scoring in the 11th minute.
Although the ‘Leopardo’ suffered from a Deportivo Pereira team that gained prominence as the match progressed and tied at 57′, they had better effectiveness in the face of the game. Joider Micolta and Daniel Mosquera finished the match with their goals in the 72nd and 84th minutes respectively.
This result in favor of Bucaramanga and the defeat by two to zero of Junior against a Millonarios that sought to improve its image, made the fans in the Armando Maestre stadium vibrate, who at the end of both matches were able to celebrate the great classification of their team to the final of the BetPlay League 2024-I.
It is an unprecedented fact for said fans since since they have been playing semi-annual tournaments since 2002 they have never managed to qualify for the last instance of a League. Furthermore, they have grounds to be excited, taking into account that the team was the best placed in the ’round-robin phase’ with eleven wins and five draws in 19 games.
Just as Atlético Bucaramanga’s classification is historic, it is also unusual since in the standings it is possible to see a quadruple tie of eight points between the teams in group A, being ‘the invisible point’ that ‘Leopardo’ obtained in the previous phase which resolved the classification.
