During the course of the EBAU, the Vice-Minister of Universities, Miguel Ángel Fernández, has defended the implementation of a single test in Spain “to avoid differences that can decisively influence the future of our students.” Fernández, after the journalists’ questions on this issue, pointed out that the different reports and statistical studies reveal that “there are significant differences between the autonomous communities in the average grades of the EBAU and in the percentage of high grades, which greatly determines access to university in those courses that have a very high grade, because Spain is a unique district (the grade obtained in this test is used to access any university in the country).

For this reason, he has justified that “a test that is as egalitarian as possible, in which the differences between the autonomous communities are reduced, must be developed.” «We believe that it is possible to move towards a kind of common EBAU, which recovers some elements that have been lost in recent years, such as the specifications matrix or some common criteria, so that the smallest differences are generated by the fact of having carried out the test in one region or another,” he stated.
