(By Maricel Cévoli*).- It has been nine years since they found us on the street putting our body and voice to stop killing us. And they continue to do so. They do not reach the standards when in fact, and in everyday life, the questioning and exercise of violence is constant. The bonfire was lit again and every word of hate increases its fire.

According to the tenth report of the National Registry of Femicide of the Argentine Justice, in 2023 there were 250 direct victims of femicide, which represents an interannual increase of 10.6% compared to 2022. This results in an average of one direct victim of femicide every 35 hours and one victim of lethal gender violence every 32 hours. And so, they total practically 2,500 in a decade. It is enough to review history and find coincidences with today. Femicides and transfemicides are increasing, hate speech prevails and attempts are made to erase through language the presence, the very existence of women and dissidents.

The crime of Barracas, the recent femicide of a girl who was only 13 years old in the north of the country, the number of unsolved crimes and communities that are still waiting for justice, the non-acceptance of bodies, the desire for possession, the rejection of The choice that is disruptive and intolerant for some is still present.

As the manifesto of “Ni una Menos” maintains: “Sexist violence kills and not only when the heart stops beating.”

Therefore, this June 3 we find ourselves again in the streets, with the desire to do so free, autonomous, critical and supportive, with the obligation to shout for our rights and the demand to end the current hate speech that only makes us run. more risks.

As I unfortunately reiterate, again and again, for a few months, the fires of the bonfire were lit again. They caught on for those who feel and think “different” from a supposed normality.

Without a doubt, we have the obligation to go back to revisit the achievements obtained and revalue the struggles given; We have to defend CSE and work inside and outside the educational space. It is imperative to remain united, because otherwise those bonfires will burn brighter than ever and there will be more and more victims.

Not one less!
